Vietnam was not a world-wide conflict and most of our service men and women did not see battlefield duty.
Most Vietnam Era veterans, including those aboard the Neptune, never came close to the shores of Vietnam.
These servicemen had to deal with military life aboard ship and growing up in that environment.
Shipmates is their story, told with compassion and humor.
